Description
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) will cause warts and a particular strain of this virus causes genital warts. Genital warts look like small lumps that typically have an irregular cauliflower-like surface. The color and shape will depend on its location on the body. While men can only have genital warts only on the surface of the genitals, women can have these warts appear inside their vagina as well.
Symptoms
Other than the appearance of a wart there are almost no symptoms, however some people do experience irritation and itching around the affected area. In women, the vulva and the perineum are the most affected, but they can also effect vagina, cervix, and anus. In men, the warts most often appear on any part of the penis, scrotum, and anus.
Some men have shiny spots called "pearly papules" on the glans (head of the penis), which are normal and should not be confused with warts.
Transmission
HPV is extremely contagious and is transmitted through moist skin to skin contact such as oral sex, anal intercourse or vaginal intercourse. You do not need to physicly show symptoms of the virus for it to be transmittable.
